Committees Formed

By Tonja Myles
Chair, Community Relations Committee

To all of Baton Rouge, thank you for voting to support the establishment of a mental health treatment center in East Baton Rouge parish. As we advocated for the passage of this tax, our board members, community advocates and others rallied together at more than 70 events in the community, including community meetings, media events, press conferences and countless discussions over coffee to discuss the needs the Bridge Center could fill. We are humbled at the response to these efforts, and we are ready to begin sorting out the details of bringing this highly needed resource to the parish.

To better facilitate transparency and information sharing, the Bridge Center is pleased to announce the formation of the community relations committee. This committee is populated by members of Bridge’s Board of Directors and will serve as a conduit for information between the Board, their employees, and the public. Monthly updates will be released at this site.

In addition to the community relations committee, four other committees of the board have been formed: executive, nominating, finance, and operations. Each committee will serve a specific purpose in guiding the decision-making processes of the Board of Directors. The executive committee will have oversight of all committees and is committed to ensuring compliance with all expectations set forth in the finalized cooperative endeavor agreement (CEA) with the city-parish, including following open meetings laws and maintaining public records of minutes and relevant Bridge Center documentation.

The community relations committee will soon be identifying the best channel through which to receive community questions and feedback related to the Center. Currently, we ask that any questions or comments be submitted on the Bridge Center website through our “Contact Us” page. We look forward to serving this community and maintaining open lines of communication in the process.
